The Télématon is a mobile video “confession booth” that enables a direct conversation between two individuals placed in separate spaces (telepresence). The passer-by hears a voice coming from inside, enters the booth and sits in the cabin. The conversation-machine starts up and transforms into a confession. And then comes a flood of words…
This documentary tool provokes a forced encounter between people who wouldn’t meet otherwise. The interviewee is surprised to meet an actual human being instead of facing a programmed interface and, isolated from the outside, lets himself be revealed. This context of privacy brings the potential to rapidly lead to an interesting depth in the exchange.
This method of savage ethnology enables to build substantial libraries of testimonials from strangers who would not normally be met and gives a voice to people who otherwise wouldn’t be heard.
